It was only a few years ago that I realized just how much finishing work they do and how efficiently they do it. I must admit that I always thought of the facility as a quality assurance and deliverable creation house. This was actually my second time at Point.360. Patrick had an opening in his schedule and agreed to be our colorist. Truth be told, I actually knew this before I walked in the door, but Porto’s sealed the deal. We had a great time catching up and, after about an hour, three potato balls, one cheese roll, and some plantain chips, I knew this was the place for my project. Oh, and two insanely talented colorists I have known for years! I stuffed a potato ball in my mouth and gave big hugs to Charlie Tucker and Patrick Woodard. I was taken into one of Point.360’s color suites and waiting for me was a selection of Porto’s pastries and finger foods. If you think I select my finishing locations based on proximity to restaurants, you wouldn’t be too far off. Not only did it have best-of-breed video post workflows, but it was also just a few blocks away from my favorite Cuban bakery, Porto’s. I went in for a meet and greet and tour of the facility, and I was thoroughly impressed. With just over 100 employees, Point.360 is considered a smaller post house in this area. Having spent 15 years working in a large post house, I wanted to see how a smaller shop would approach the project, so I reached out to Jason Kavner, senior vice president of episodic post production at Point.360 in Burbank. I’m based in Southern California and wanted to use a local facility. Porto’s seals the dealĪs the producer I needed to hire a post house for the film’s finishing work. He would be the first to tell you that if you really want to make something look and sound amazing, it takes a lot of people and a lot of teamwork to make it happen. Gonzalo knows exactly what he likes and has the experience and talent to communicate his visions through the camera. The cinematographer was a good friend, Gonzalo Amat, ASC, who I’ve worked with for many years on various projects. We shot it guerilla-style, using only available light, at locations in New York City. Late last year I had the pleasure of producing a short film for Sony to promote the launch of their VENICE 2 CineAlta camera.

They also analyzed the images in relation to census data for the area. The team then studied the geo-tagged images in context of specific factors such as neighborhood, borough and zone type, and whether the pictures were taken in a bustling commercial area, near manufacturing or in a primary residential location. The researchers identified more than 233,000 images containing marked police vehicles. In 2020, the team obtained 24.8 million dashcam images from Nexar, a company that provides rideshare drivers with dashboard cameras. While data on police stops, use of force, searches, criminal incidents and arrests is publicly available, police generally do not provide information on how and where officers are deployed, citing security concerns.ĭeployment disparities, the researchers wrote, can result in downstream biases like increased arrests: A neighborhood that's more heavily policed than another might not necessarily have more crime, just more people arrested for it. While the model could identify police vehicles, it could not account for the reasons they were there. The researchers used thousands of images to train a deep learning model to identify marked police vehicles. The research, "Detecting Disparities in Police Deployments Using Dashcam Data," was presented June 12 at the Association for Computing Machinery Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (FAccT '23) in Chicago. Areas with more police vehicle images included wealthy commercial zones and low-income neighborhoods with higher proportions of Black and Latino residents. Among the researchers' findings: Gramercy Park, in Midtown Manhattan, had the most police vehicles visible in dashcam images-almost 20 times more than Arden Heights/Rossville, in southern Staten Island, which had the fewest. Their results showed trends in police presence by time of day, neighborhood demographics, proximity to police stations and commercial districts. But LastPass may have come up with a better option. Hanna was intrigued by the depth of history at her fingertips. “I just love knowing that so much happened there.” “I’m from the West Coast, so anything back East is so fascinating to me because it’s old and has a lot of history,” she said. For Hanna, it was one of the most interesting things about her time here. Living in the Lowcountry sometimes feels like there’s something of historical significance on every block, and it’s easy to take that for granted. Hanna found herself drawn to the many stories of the South. “I liked the idea of everyone knowing each other, everyone knowing what’s going on. I’m not really from a small town, so I’m fascinated by small towns,” she said. Other than a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach as a teenager, Stars Fell on Alabama was Hanna’s first real experience on the East Coast. I’ve known James (Maslow) forever, so I just felt like I was being myself.”įilming finished up in November 2019, but Hanna has vivid, fond memories of her time in South Carolina. I was just kind of hanging out with friends. So it wasn’t hard at all, it was like I wasn’t even acting. With Madison, I took the whole shebang of me and put it into her. “A lot of times I’ll take little parts of me in roles and just amplify that side of me. “With Madison, she’s very much me,” said Hanna. In 2009, she was a semifinalist on America’s Next Top Model. Ciara finds peace and therapy through painting and poetry.“You get a good feeling watching it, and you get a good feeling doing it - it’s interesting.”ĭespite the very different nature of the film, Hanna says it wasn’t difficult to transition into playing Madison Belle. “It is different from anything I’ve ever done, and I found out that I actually really love doing little romantic comedies,” Hanna said. After acting in primarily horror films, she was ready to be in something that her grandma would want to watch. Hanna had never worked on a romantic comedy before, which is what drew her to the project in the first place. Scheich, Stars Fell on Alabama tells the story of Madison Belle (Ciara Hanna), a Hollywood actress on the brink of making it big, who agrees to play the girlfriend of her successful agent, Bryce Dixon (James Maslow), at his 15-year high school reunion in his Alabama hometown, Willow Valley.įor Ciara Hanna, a California native who has worked on projects like the Nickelodeon show Power Rangers: Megaforce, and the supernatural horror movie, Pernicious, the film was a big change compared to her previous projects. Hollywood descended on Beaufort in late 2019 to make the Lowcountry city the backdrop for the recently released indie romantic comedy, Stars Fell on Alabama. She is known for playing the roles of Gia Moran in Power Rangers Megaforce and Nicole Parker in Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys. Choosing which stack of cards you'll draw from each turn is a fascinating challenge: Do you want to draw ways to produce mana that will help you play the cards in your hand, or do you want to draw cards that allow you to use the mana you can already produce? Players share both stacks of cards as a library and also use a communal graveyard. This includes the seven cards drawn for each player's opening hand. Whenever a player draws a card, they may do so from either stack (all players know which stack is which). The first stack features cards that can't produce mana, and the second stack features only lands and other cards that can produce mana (such as Dark Ritual, Birds of Paradise or Fellwar Stone).
